Mortenson is currently seeking an Electrical Engineers with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Electrical Engineer will provide electrical technical support throughout the entire construction project. This is an operations / field based position.


Organization, flexibility, outstanding customer focus and strong communication are critical in performing duties which include, but are not limited to:

Determine best layout of collection system; individual consideration of constraints such as overhead / underground, follow roads/cross country and junction box locations

Perform system loss calculations (100% output / annualized)

Ensure subcontractors understand the scope of the project during bidding process and provide electrical engineering resources throughout the project

Review manufacturer provided data and determine extent of scope for electrical portion of project including wiring requirements and electrical characteristic (i.e. grounding requirements, power factor ranges, lightning protection requirements, generator outputs, etc.)

Develop one-line diagrams of collection system and substations as well as maintain standard details of electrical construction that are typical to Mortenson projects

Verify that the construction agrees with electrical engineering design drawings, including preparatory meetings, and quality assurance / quality control

Manage and lead the electrical engineering design and equipment procurement through use of submittals, transmittals and requests for information

Communicate with local utilities to ensure that the project can interconnect to the electrical grid

Provide technical expertise to all parties concerned

New hires may be placed in one of the following:

High Voltage Transmission Group

Solar and Emerging Renewables Group

Wind Energy Group

Additional Information:

Team Members are placed in the field and will relocate for every project assignment. Projects are typically, nine to fourteen months in duration; extensive travel is required. It is estimated that qualified candidates will not start until 2018.



Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering by summer 2018

Previous Mortenson intern

Must be willing to be mobile

Must be able to relocate frequently for job assignments

Current driver's license


Previous related internship experience

Basic understanding of construction techniques and project management practices

Working knowledge of NEC code and NE safety code

Effectively work with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels

Adaptive, effective communication and active listening skills

Ability to identify and troubleshoot issues in the field

Work in a position that involves adverse weather conditions

Proven track record of including diverse team members when assigning challenging and high-profile tasks

Right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer

Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices

Strong cross - cultural relationship building and influencing at all organizational levels
