About the Job
General Statement of Responsibilities:
The Director of Research assesses, analyzes, and describes patterns of health, disease, and health-related behaviors in University of Minnesota students. The Director of Research serves as the principal investigator on The College Student Health Survey and is an expert in college health population level data. This position interprets data and communicates findings to assist in data-driven decision making. The Director of Research builds strategic partnerships to advance college health in support of Boynton Health's mission and vision.
Boynton Health's mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of University of Minnesota students and the
campus community. Boynton Heatlh's vision is to be the healthiest campus in the nation. The Director of Research is part of Boynton's Public Health Team that includes a Health Promotion Director and Public Health Nursing Director.
This position is on-site with hybrid flexibility.
Detailed Job Responsibilities:
Establish, implement, and oversee health monitoring and surveillance systems to identify trends that influence health of the college population.
Design and implement new and existing health surveys on the University of Minnesota campus.
Analyze quantitative and qualitative data.
Maintain databases of all survey data collected.
Collect data and develop data collection instruments and procedures.
Collaborate with Boynton Health staff to design project/program evaluation plans.
Serve as a consultant to Boynton Health staff regarding survey results.
Translate and disseminate survey and research results to key partners to assist in data-driven decision making.
Respond to requests for population level health data.
Explore and build partnerships to advance student health.
Lead Boynton Health's Research Committee.
Present to local and national groups regarding college health data.
Participate on local, regional and national committees working on college health data.
Promote a safe, equitable, and respectful environment in which concerns can be addressed effectively.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
MPH Degree or equivalent Masters Degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, health services research, public health administration/policy or related, applicable field.
At least three years of professional work experience applying research skills in the health/public health field.
Knowledge of principles of public health.
Proficiency with data analysis software, such as SPSS, and SAS, or R or equivalent.
Experience with survey design.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft and Google products (e.g, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Demonstrated commitment to promoting a culture that respects and advances diversity and inclusion.
Demonstrated commitment to health equity.
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, health services research, public health administration/policy or related, applicable field.
Experience working with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
