Responsibilities



Peraton is currently seeking skilled and qualified candidates for their UNIX/Linux Monitoring Engineer position with the Postal ETS program located in Eagan, MN. This is an on-site position with no telecommute possibilities.

This position requires a technical resource, who is considered an expert in their field. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to lead the development and engineering of UNIX/Linux based monitoring tools within the USPS enterprise. The selected individual will be expected to work independently with a minimum of guidance or direction. The candidate will report directly to the USPS manager.

Day to Day Work Responsibilities:

Monitoring system design, development, deployment and end-to-end support in a Linux/Unix enterprise environment
IT experience specializing in implementation, engineering and support of the Enterprise Event Monitoring solution (AppDynamics, Zabbix, Solarwinds and Neustar)
Experience in the installation, integration, troubleshooting, administering, and engineering of all above products on UNIX like servers
Specification and implementation of integrations to other systems management solutions - hardware, storage, network and other 3rd party element managers
Support and engineer integration with other enterprise monitoring tools, such as AppDynamics, SolarWinds, Neustar, Everbridge, Splunk, etc
Provides periodic reports to users and managers of monitoring status
Provides action plan for resolution of any/all faults detected
Develops and implements operational management process and procedures.
Develop growth plans to ensure that the hosting environment is capable of supporting the projected growth
Develop and implement procedures that support proactive problem detection and avoidance, including disaster recovery planning and implementation.
Support future integration of HPE Operations Bridge and other monitoring initiatives including development of monitoring frameworks to support the customer's ITIL vision.






Qualifications



Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with 5-7 years related work experience, MS degree with 3-5 years related work experience or HS diploma or equivalent with 9+ years related work experience.
U.S. Citizenship required; must have the ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
Resided in the US for the past 5 years and not travel more than a combined 6 months in the past 5 years.
Minimum 5+ years experience with UNIX/Linux
Must possess solid working knowledge on Windows and Unix Operating systems
Demonstrate strong UNIX shell scripting knowledge (BASH, Perl)
Demonstrate strong knowledge of other scripting language (Groovy, Ruby, Python, Selenium)
Experience architecting and engineering software for use within a large organization and enterprise, including automation management like Puppet and Ansible
Experience using any (application/hardware/os/network/portal) monitoring tools and responding to system alerts
Strong knowledge of UNIX/Linux internals, including the kernel, network stack and many of the low level system calls which monitoring takes advantage
Should have thorough understanding of SNMP & networking

Preferred Qualifications:
Expert level knowledge in UNIX (Linux, Solaris)
Automation experience
Experience with Google Cloud
Software development experience on UNIX-like systems
Strong understanding of system calls with knowledge of how to programmatically use these calls to develop system monitoring
Hands on experience in developing various integrations using Shell/BASH, Perl, Ruby, Python and Groovy.
Experience in working as a part of a team involved in the implementation of enterprise monitoring solutions
Strong cloud monitoring experience (AWS, Azure, etc)
Experience implementing ITIL and change management in a large enterprise, especially from a service perspective
Experience developing business and IT KPI's for monitoring systems and applications
Experience in Service Impact Management and/or Event Management
Experience with AppDynamics, Solarwinds, Neustar Monitoring application tools
Experience with Splunk
Strong knowledge of monitoring solutions on UNIX-like systems

Target Salary Range


$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
