Job Description:
This teacher is responsible for teaching elementary school students in our Spanish language immersion program, delivering our Primary Years Programme (PYP) curriculum to students in Spanish by applying principles and theories of foreign language immersion programs, and child development.

Specific duties include:

• Developing and implementing Spanish language and multicultural curriculum, utilizing the best immersion teaching practices to help ensure that our students develop both a deep understanding of content and their communication ability in a second language;

• Utilizing Responsive Classroom practices to help students develop the needed social skills that will allow them to function in our society as a productive member;

• Analyzing, designing, and preparing course objectives and outlines according to existing state and school curriculum guidelines and requirements;

• Teaching elementary school subjects, including science, language arts, mathematics, and social studies according to established education principles;

• Evaluating student performance and taking into account language aptitude, grade level, class size, and related factors;

• Adapting the curriculum to meet the need of classes and individuals;

• Collaborating with grade-level teachers, program specialists, teacher mentors, coordinators, directors and other staff;

• Contributing to the school’s ongoing efforts to integrate multicultural programming in the curriculum to address the needs of our increasingly diverse student body;

• Communicating closely and encouraging parental involvement regarding program goals, classroom activities, homework, school functions and student progress;

• Participating in professional development for language immersion, Responsive Classroom, and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program; and

• Creating a safe classroom environment.
