About the Job

Teamster Promotional Priority period November 1, 2021 - November 8, 2021

This position performs a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks and serves as a lead worker for other Utility workers, whose primary purpose is to assist employees in various classifications on the Twin Cities Campus. This is not a supervisory role.

Responsibilities: Provides support to zone operations through various tasks and assignments. Drives service vehicle to pick up and deliver goods, supplies and parts. Performs light maintenance and minor repairs to University facilities and equipment. Assists mechanics with maintenance and various repairs on equipment, to ensure equipment is in good operating and clean condition. Assists with inspections of building systems. Cleans areas to include sweeping, emptying trash, and washing service vehicles. Operates snow removal equipment. Provides backup staffing to zone storeroom. Unloads and unpacks deliveries of materials, supplies and equipment as received from University storehouses and vendors. Assists other line staff with special projects. Additionally:

Acts as lead worker for Utility workers in the performance of various skilled and unskilled tasks on University campus.

Assists and may provide work direction to Utility workers in the use of tools, equipment techniques and procedures.

Trains Utility workers with time card and work order processes.

In coordination with supervisors, gives assignments and work instructions to Utility workers.

In coordination with supervisors, adjusts work assignments as required due to employee absences, vacant positions, or other interruptions.

Instructs and assists Utility workers in work procedures, techniques, and in the use of new methods and processes.

Responsible for routine daily Utility worker tasks as assigned.

Assists with daily maintenance and storage of tools and equipment.

Evaluates quality and quantity of daily work completed and communicates results to the supervisor.

Disseminates information from supervisor to Utility workers.

Other duties as assigned.

This job may be designated as essential. The employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position. Work Environment: Work is performed in both an indoor and outdoor environment. Some exposure to noise and extreme weather conditions may be required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions. One year of experience with various types of shop work, equipment, and/or maintenance service.

Basic computer skills.

Ability to interact with fellow employees, management, customers and the general public in a courteous, cooperative, and professional manner.

Maintain a positive public image, positive attitude and demeanor when performing service for customers and the general public at the University.

Essential Qualification:

Regular attendance is an essential qualification for this position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to work independently to complete assigned work.

Ability to work closely with and support technical, trades, and storeroom staff.

Training and leading other Utility workers.

Following and communicating University policies and procedures.

Assisting in sustaining a culture of respect and accountability.
