Job Description:
Plant Manager Rochester, Minnesota

Manages and directs dairy production activities to assure plant production, safety and quality standards are met.

Manages plant production operations and establishes production priorities to ensure product is produced efficiently and within cost parameters while maintaining company quality and sanitation standards.

Coordinates production activities with procurement, sales, distribution, maintenance and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of manpower, machines and equipment.

Contributes to the development of plant production and quality standards as well as budget and cost controls.

Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance and operational reports to determine causes of non-conformity with product specifications, or operating or production problems. Compiles and analyzes raw product cost data to identify and minimize excessive costs.

Supervises plant engineering activities to minimize operating costs and recommends appropriate equipment and operational changes as needed.

Manages directly or through subordinate personnel, plant employees so that effective management/union working relationships are sustained. Conduct hearings to resolve grievances.

Works alongside direct reports as a coach and partner to effectively manage their performance. Communicates company and cascading goals and assists direct reports in establishing goals that align with department, cross-functional teams, and company goals. Provides on-going performance feedback and conducts performance conversations with direct reports. Holds direct reports and indirect accountable for results and works with them to cultivate their capabilities and utilize their strengths.

Support/follow the company safety and health policy. Maintain and implement up to date programs, policies and communication at regular staff meetings. Provide leadership for safety and enforce safety rules in accordance with established disciplinary policy. Adhere to the company RTW program and evaluate safety responsibilities of direct reports.

Support/follow the company SQF program. Maintain and implement up to date SQF procedures and communicate to staff on a regular basis. Provide leadership for SQF and enforce the rules in accordance with the established program.

Performs other duties as apparent or assigned.

Education and Experience

Completion of a bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Food Science Technology with emphasis on manufacturing operations plus 8-10 years of experience in dairy production and/or quality control, with at least 5 of those years in a supervisory role Or 12-13 years of experience in dairy production and/or quality control, with at least 5 of those years in a supervisory role


Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Working knowledge of union contracts and obligations, and ability to work effectively with bargaining unit employees.

Strong working knowledge of general business concepts & practices, especially as they relate to dairy business.

Strong working knowledge of dairy industry production practices, processes, regulations and equipment.

Ability to demonstrate professional oral and written communication skills.

Ability to make and implement personnel decisions critical to subordinates, pay and productivity levels and employment statuses.
