Temporary Substation Utility Assistants (2 positions)

We are seeking two temporary Substation Utility Assistants to work with the Substation Department based in Madison, South Dakota. These positions provide experience with many aspects of the construction and maintenance activities needed to keep electrical substations in good working order. Employees also participate in daily safety tailgate sessions, department level safety discussions, and monthly all-employee safety meetings. Both positions begin in May 2021 with the length of employment available as stated below.
East River Electric is a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative with a main campus located in Madison, South Dakota. We deliver wholesale power to our members, which include 24 rural electric distribution cooperatives and one municipally-owned electric system in eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota. Our members, in turn, power the properties of the member-owners in their service territories.
Key responsibilities include:
Substation Utility Assistant (Seasonal work with up to 1000 hours possible)
Assist with the installation, maintenance and testing of substation apparatus and motor operated switches
Help transport heavy equipment
Travel with substation crew to various work site locations
Assist with general facilities maintenance
Substation Equipment Utility Assistant (Summer Intern)
Help gather oil samples and conduct testing of samples.
Update and maintain records.
Assist with other maintenance activities with regulators/transformers as well as general facilities maintenance.
Position Details:
Hourly pay rate is $22.00
Paid work-related travel expenses
PPE gear provided
Summer work schedule is a 4/10 work week with 10 hour days M-Th and every Friday off
