POSITION SUMMARY:
This is the first level in the five level nutritional services group and is responsible for performing routine kitchen duties, such as the preparation and serving of breakfast and/or lunch to students and staff, dishwashing, general cashiering and cleaning.

SALARY:
$14.55/hr - $15.35/hr (subject to negotiated agreement and work experience)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Kitchen Helper

Preparation of side dishes

Fills dishes and serving trays with prepared food

Set up serving lines as directed

Serve food to students and staff

Counts out and records the quantity of food sold on daily and weekly sheets

Fills serving line shelves and containers with food

Cleans counters and floors; picks up garbage

Checks food inventory

Makes short order food to order (ice cream, malts, pop)

Restocks food dispensers (ice cream machine and soft drink tanks) and food racks

Clean all dispensing machines and work surfaces

Compiles food and supply orders

Receives money for cash sales in ala-cart line

Washes dishes in dishroom with power washer

Cleans up serving area

Cleans and makes ready food items for salad

Makes ready meats, vegetables, portions of main dishes and sandwiches as directed by cooks

Cleans prep areas, stoves, brazers, steam-tables, and other cooking equipment

Assist with the cleaning of kitchen and entire serving area as directed

Other duties as assigned

Ala Carte: ensures all aspects of Ala Carte are maintained by planning, ordering and preparing display of products; provides cashiering, accounting and customer service functions in Ala Carte line

Plans, orders, prepares and displays product

Distributes product to students and staff

Calculates and collects cash sale of Ala Carte items

Maintains adequate product inventory

Monitors expiration dates

Assists kitchen staff as directed by cook manager

Reconciles sales and cash receipts; investigates and resolves discrepancies

Maintains sanitary and secure work area

Other duties as assigned


PHYSICAL FACTORS:

Frequent: walking, standing, sitting, hearing, talking, seeing, and repetitive motions

Light Work: lifting up to 25 pounds and/or exerting up to 20 of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
